On the Launch Pad: Hook Mobile
October 6, 2006
Back in the day, I had quite an extensive collection of Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. Flash forward to 2006, and today's young and cool will soon be swapping Survivor cards (based on characters and scenes from the CBS reality show)—on their mobile phones. At least that's what Hook Mobile, the Virgina-based startup that launched the new mobile trading cards earlier today, is betting on. As far as mobile marketing campaigns go, Hook Mobile could be on to something sticky. Here's how it works: Participants register by logging online or sending a text message, and then receive three random cards (out of a total 61) which they can then manage, send and trade via MMS on their cell phone. Assuming hardcore Survivor fans are still out there (after all, it is the show's 13th season), this could be a good start for the newly-hatched startup, which calls itself a "leader in multimedia messaging services innovation."
